Girls collecting water in cans

Ae-Fa Water Project

Nagekeo, East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia

The Challenges

In villages that lack water infrastructure, pipes from spring water sources and water reservoirs do not have sufficient distribution coverage to meet daily water needs. Many pipelines are damaged and clogged with debris. These villages grapple with regular water scarcity and prolonged droughts. Those who use groundwater deal with bacteria, germs, and mineral contamination, which is associated with stunting. In Nagekeo, the prevalence of stunted growth is reported to be 10.37%. Where water committees have been established, they often do not have the expertise or capacity to actively maintain water supplies, despite having access to some village funding.

Our Response

ActSEA offers technical assistance to villages who are keen to overcome their water supply challenges. Where external funding is available, we help to design and construct or upgrade water supply systems.
